The tranquil atmosphere, friendly locals and all the cozy islands are just some of the reasons why to live in Greece. But how is it to live in Greece and what are the benefits? More and more people from all over the world travel to Greece each year and fall in love, and in recent years more and more have bought their own homes, either for summer vacation or permanent stay.
The climate and weather is definitely the most important reason why to choose Greece. Plenty of sun hours combined with pleasant weather and temperatures that rarely go below 10 degrees. In summer it is warm with cool breezes from the sea and also in the spring and fall. With thousands of different islands with incredible beaches, there is certain to find one suitable for you, whether you long for sandy and pebble beaches or everything in between. Nature also offers variety with everything from dramatic mountains to lush valleys.
For those who like history, art, and culture, Greece is a heaven on earth. Wherever you go, there are ancient ruins and historical sites to explore. During winter you may be surprised to find out that temperatures can reach as high as 18C (64F) in November and December in the southern parts of the country. If that doesn’t convince you, there’s delicious seasonal food and drink, thermal lakes and even skiing to draw you to Greece during winter. Carved over millions of years, Vikos Gorge is one of the globe’s deepest canyons. Traverse hiking routes in and around the gorge to viewpoints offering spectacular panoramas.
The country is home to major ski and snowboard centres such as Arachova, or Kalavryta in the Peloponnese. However, if it’s the mountain of the gods that you’re looking for, choose Elatochori Ski Centre in the Pieria Mountains, on the northern slopes of Mount Olympus. Perched at an altitude of 1,450m (4,700ft), the centre has six ski trails stretching over 10km (6mi), complete with a track for snowboarding.
If you are looking for a land blessed by the gods, rumour has it Greece is the place. A sun-kissed Mediterranean country rich with historic and cultural treasures, Greece is an irresistible destination for many tourists, travellers and expats. Property ownership in Greece is incredibly common, with over 75% of residents owning their homes¹ thanks to a strong culture of family and inherited property. But don’t worry – there are still plenty of properties left on the market, so you can snap up a little piece of Greek paradise as your own.
